The highest crossing of the Alps by cable car

Matterhorn Alpine Crossing

The cable car journey around the Matterhorn offers breathtaking views of the Zermatt mountains and takes you on a journey through the entire fauna, flora and glacier landscape. With a high standard of safety and comfort, the national border between Switzerland and Italy can be crossed at just about 3,500 m above sea level. During this unique crossing of the Alps, numerous other highlights await, such as the highest glacier palace in the world or the viewing platform with views of 38 four-thousand-metre peaks and 14 glaciers in 3 different countries.

Whether as a day trip across the border or as part of a fixed itinerary through Europe, the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing offers an exciting experience for locals and visitors alike.

Plan Maison

Plan Maison offers a wide range of activities, both in the summer and winter – not to mention a fantastic view of the surrounding peaks, especially the Matterhorn.

Recommendation

The Goillet reservoir occupies an old glacial basin and is an artificial lake that holds 12 million cubic metres of water. It gets its name from the word “goille”, which means “water hole” in the local dialect. On sunny days, the Matterhorn (4,478 m) can be seen majestically reflected in the lake.

It’s worth making a little detour to Lago Blu on the way back from Plan Maison to Breuil-Cervinia. It’s a small lake surrounded by 100-year-old larch trees and fed by fresh spring water. This gives it a very clear surface in which the Matterhorn is beautifully reflected. Not far away are the three small Layet lakes, also fed by springs. Each has its own distinct colour set off by the lush green of the meadowland that stretches along the valley.
